Committee on Special Education (CSE) Coordinator
Overview:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education, the Coordinator of CSE provides district-wide oversight and coordination of special education programs and related services for all students with disabilities. This administrative role collaborates with district leadership, building administrators, and service providers to ensure consistent, compliant, and high-quality implementation of special education services across all schools.
The Coordinator supervises all CPSE/CSE processes to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. The role promotes consistent procedures, clear communication, and data-based decision-making to ensure equitable services aligned with district priorities.
Core Responsibilities
? Manage and oversee all district CPSE and CSE processes, including referrals, evaluations, meetings, and required documentation; serve as chairperson for designated meetings
? Ensure districtwide compliance with NYSED Part 200 regulations, IDEA, and Board of Education–approved policies for preschool and school-age programs
? Collaborate with building administrators and central office leadership to design, implement, and evaluate special education programs aligned with district priorities and inclusive practices
? Oversee and monitor all mandated timelines to ensure evaluations, meetings, and service implementation occur within required legal timeframes
? Demonstrate effective communication skills with families regarding CPSE/CSE processes, procedural safeguards, and program recommendations to support informed decision-making
? Coordinate with community agencies, early childhood providers, and county representatives to ensure appropriate preschool placements and related services
? Assist in the development, oversight, and evaluation of specialized programs and district-based classrooms
? Provide administrative guidance and problem-solving support to staff related to programming, behavior supports, and service delivery
? Monitor student data and program outcomes to inform district-level decision-making and program adjustments
? Plan and facilitate professional development related to special education compliance, accommodations, and district expectations
? Lead and coordinate transition planning at key points, including CPSE to CSE, elementary to secondary, and secondary to post-secondary outcomes
